The Giant Snowball of Blogs

It starts as just one little flake. Then it picks up a few more. Before long, it is a snowball. It keeps rolling downhill picking up more and more snow. A bigger ball. A freaking giant ball. And then...it passes the 'ball' phase totally and we're talking avalanche.

I'm talking about the blogs I read. Is is just me, or does everyone have more bookmarked than you can possibly read? I've got a few of my favorites right here on this page. And those are just a few of my faves. I've got more faves. Then I've got the 'read when I have extra time' blogs. They are interesting but maybe don't post as often. Then there are the blogs I saved cause they had one or two really awesome posts that made me laugh till I snorted...so I keep going back hoping for another one of those posts. And then, there are blogs I read for a while and just don't any longer. Just too many. And the list got even longer when I started to blog! It is like a separate little world that self-perpetuates!

So tonight I thought I would clean up my bookmarks. I got rid of the ones I haven't looked at for at least a month or so. And the ones who haven't updated in a month or so. Plus a few others for various reasons. And two things were noted.

First, I felt guilty about every one. Almost like I was dumping a friend. But they don't know. So it felt secretive and and sneaky. I know...weird, huh.

Second, I still have a LOT of blogs left on my list. Thank god LOST is going on haitus for a while. Maybe I'll use that hour on Wednesday to catch up on blog reading.

First off, I am honored to be on your blogroll! Secondly, I feel the same way about the snowball effect. The hardest thing for me is finding the time to read all of the wonderful blogs out there. And the more I read, the more great blogs I find! It's neverending!

I know I've got quite a blog list. It can take ages to go through them.

Michele sent me here.

I, too, am honored to be on your list! Thank you.

Also, I completely understand the feeling of being overwhelmed with the number of blogs to keep up with. My "Blogging On" class has something like 18 or 19 blogs to read!

im sure that less people would watch lost if they knew how many good blogs there are to read.

Glad I'm not alone. Seems we all share a common problem. Oh, by the way, I added about five new blogs to my bookmarks just since yesterday. sigh

And david, yep, I am on the blogger beta.

It's funny that I stopped in here tonight. I JUST finished deleting blogs off of my blog roll! eek. It was hard...like they wre going to come back and call me on it! LOL But I added some new ones so thats good too I guess. :) I saw that you had dropped by one day....thanks for that....and welcomeback anytime!! :)

Yep, big problem that every blogger encounters sooner or later or both. My first solution was to create 2 lists, the "DailyBread" ones that I really try to read on a daily basis, and the "Places2Go" for the rest, which I try to hit weekly. Over time the daily list will lose, add, change membership for various reasons. The other list keeps growing and growing and growing... just like the Energizer Bunny. What? Oh, he's "going".

No matter how you do it, it is a chore, especially keeping the dead links, etc. cleaned out.

Here from Michele today and you made me smile with this post...because every day I think I cannot get around to visiting everyone I would like to in the Blogworld...Yes, my Blogroll is long and well, everything you said, I feel too, sometimes....BUT, I cannot erase anyone's blog from my roll or my bookmarks either! Takk about an addictuon! (LOL)

My list is very long too. I try really hard to make time to read them all, but can not keep up most times. Then I add more because I like them too. I guess it is a good problem to have though, having too many interesting people to read.

Hello, Em, nice to meet you. Michele sent me.

I could have written this post! I don't have a blogroll (to dumb and too little time to do it) but I have over 100 blogs in my favorites and I try to look at each one every day. Thank God not all of them post everyday! I wish I could get paid for this...LOL

I can totally relate...and of course once Michele's weekend game kicks off you end up with even more blogs to visit! Sometimes it's just very difficult to keep up with though!

Oh, Em, I so feel your pain... *runs off to catch up on blogs*

Em, I came back to thank you for your visit to my blog and the nice comments. I hope you will come back and read some of the archives about the test of the trip. The posts started on Oct. 20th, I think.

I do believe it's hard to keep up with a mega blogroll and also keep up writing all the time on your own blog. I don't post daily because I just don't have anything that witty or interesting to say on a daily basis! Also no blogs are allowed during work hours from the office computers so that leaves less time to peruse! Dropping a blog from a blogroll is like breaking up with someone almost

Totally know what you mean about too many. It feels like another job. Well, not really.

Seems this post brought out some pain for lots of folks. Maybe we need a support group for bloggers. "Be strong...we'll be here for you...it's okay to delete a bookmark for that blog. It hasn't been updated in 18 months. Go ahead...you can do it."

Thanks so much for keeping me on. You're a kind soul indeed.

This is something I struggle mightily with. I just keep adding to mine. Web space is limitless, after all :)

Popped by from Michele's. It's always wonderful to read you.
