Winter Break

Yep, this is the week our schools take off so we can all sit around and think about how cold it is outside. The time off doesn't really apply to Son19 since the colleges keep right on having classes and his job keeps right on expecting him to show up. But the rest of us are getting a break in one way or another.

My wife took the opportunity to go visit her mom again - who just finished her second round of chemo and is slowly recovering.

I'm sleeping late, catching up on my Netflix movies, spending far too much time on the internet, and reading a lot. I know, I know...those of you who are working this week can just go ahead and hate me! :)

But no one knows how to celebrate a week off like Son16 and Daughter13. I have managed to convince them to shower and change clothes at least once since school ended last Friday. And they have eaten most meals. But if I really want to see Daughter13, I have to take the book out of her hands (she is totally hooked on the Guardians of Ga'hoole series) or try to find her over her DS.

Son16 will either be found building new robots and castles and anything else that comes to mind with Legos, or he'll be hiding behind his own DS.

The best way to tell them apart? By the games they play!

Ah sweet March break...soon, very soon. A perk due only to teachers and their students. Sleeping in, reading till all hours, cross-country skiing, a definite break from the winter blahhs. Bliss.

I was the same as a child. My mom used to have to ground me from reading...it was the only thing I did. lol...enjoy your week off!

I don't hate you, but I'm pretty much GREEN with envy....

Everyone should have a week off in winter, cause honestly, I don't have any more gas in the tank...

That sounds wonderful. Have a great week. :)

Spring break. I love it. I get to harass my kiddies and spend time acting as dorkish as possible.

What is not to love about that?

Snow days as a kid I was building igloos and having snow ball fights with my sisters - then I would get in trouble for being to rough with them - okay now lets see there was 4 of them and one of me - but I was to rough ...

The first electronic toy in our house was PacMan, played on a sorry little TV set. We thought it was GREAT! We all played it, but it didn't hold a kid's attention quite as long as today's amazing electronics.

Books... yes, books are wonderful.

I miss that time when my kids had vacations and kid things to do. Enjoy them! Too soon they grow up.

Have a great week!

LOL What Star said!!!!! Or, at least give her a chance to get to the end of the page, the chapter, the paragraph, or some spot where it's easy to put it down for a while. (Not that it's ever really "easy" to put down a really good book.) But, stopping mid-sentence or mid-paragraph..... OOoooh, that's HARSH to do to somebody who loves to read. Like Bardouble, if my mom grounded me, she'd send me OUTSIDE without any reading material. If she sent me to my room, I'd just find a book and be perfectly happy.

As for the nintendo Ds.... Yep, DD got one for Christmas as well, and when it's not charging (and she's not at school or day-care) she's got darn near got her nose pressed against the screen. What game is your daughter playing???? DD has the "Over the hedge" game, the bratz game (rolling eyes), Back Yard Hockey, and Nintendogs.

My kids love their gameboys, too. But when it snows, they are definitely out in it.

On those particular shots, Son16 is playing Animal Planet and Daughter13 is playing Star Fox. But they also have some Adventures of Link game and Nintendogs. And my all time favorite, Mario Kart! VROOOOOOM!

man, I wish I could get my boys to read....they only read on the toilet which I guess, is better than nothing!

Prayers go out for MIL...hope she continues to recover.

Have a great winter break!

Can you remember those first Nitendo Game and Watch hand held games? Back in the early 80s. I loved mine!!! And you can play Mario Kart on those DS things can you? Do you know how much I love Mario Kart??? How about Zelda? Can you play Zelda on them?

Sounds like you're having a relaxing week at home...

Melody you can indeed play Mario Kart on a DS - my boys are addicted to it...I hardly see them when they are into their game. Bliss. Such wonderful silence.

I wish my boys would get into books though...they're too lazy to read for themselves and prefer me reading to them.

Wow, teenagers. A week off with the kids means not catching up on ANYTHING - rather falling far, far behind.

All 3 of my kids have DS's. They give me such leverage as in, "clean your room or I'm taking away the DS." Works like a charm.

My son engrosses in books so bad that I do have to put the book away to get him to eat, sleep and use the facilities.

Our schools are off this week, too. I wish my kids were old enough to get absorbed into books and games like that--without my constant participation. I love your comment about telling your kids apart by the games they playn
