In honor of me? Aw, shucks.

I gotta give a shout out to the wonderful folks at Sam Adams Brewery. I mean, how often does a big corporation take time to recognize one individual customer? It simply does not happen.

And yet, they did it. They created a brew just for me.

It surprised me that they did it. Yes, I only drink Sam Adams. But no, I don't drink a lot. So the CEO isn't buying a new yacht based on what I spend.

And yet, they must have done this in my honor. They named it after this month. And my birthday is later this month. Coincidence? I think not. I'm taking full credit for the existence of this tasty seasonal beverage.

Oh I'm sure some of you will say...nay, nay Em...it is in honor of the Oktoberfest festival in Munich. Sure, Oktoberfest is the world's largest fair, drawing more than six million people every year. And yes, they serve a special beer at the festival which is brewed only by select Munich brewers specifically for the festival and served in their giant beer tents. And yes, the entire festival kicks off when the Mayor of Munich taps the first keg. But that is way over there in Germany. With their special beer. In the tents.

This is here...with a different special beer...in my house. In the month of my birthday.

Synchronicity.

LOL Well of course you're right, Em! Man..... It's been years since I've been to a good Octoberfest celebration. (I actually did some dancing with a traditional german dance troupe as a kid. Kinda miss it.)

So, you gonna share how old YOU'RE going to be???? *grin* Come on now, you've told us how old your kids are. Let us in on how young YOU are! *wink*

Kati, no problem, I'll gladly reveal my age. I'm 50 now...will turn 51 (obviously) near the end of the month.

Aren't we both special? Silverado Vinyards in the Napa Valley has named their 2005 chardonnay after me. It's pretty good stuff, too.

And then they'll make a winter brew for you, I'm sure--because, um, you celebrate the holidays and, er, you are alive in winter?

It's the month of MY birthday too! Enjoy YOUR beer.

I'll go with that. Can you talk to the good folks at Sam Adams and ask when I can expect a Mayfest brew?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I see you're one of the "conceived-in-winter" babies. And I think you're right. It's no mere coincidence that Sam Adams would come up with that beer. So drink up.

I remember the days when the Soviet Union would celebrate my birthday by parading their nuclear weaponry around the Kremlin (My b-day is May 1.)

Oh, man, that is sweet! Now I can tell everybody I see today that one of my blog buds is a real celebrity. Of course, they named a half of a town and a cigarette after me...

Must be exciting to see your name in print...fame at last :)

If they created this just for you, that must make you like a king or something.

And seeing I think it is the single best tasting beer in existance, I will be forever loyal to your monarchy.

Cheers!!!

I would never think of this particular Samuel Adams as being in honor of some festival where the men wear lederhosen and everyone dances the polka. Really. Who would do that??

So yea for you!!

Well, obviously it's in honor of your birthday -- just look at the spelling: not "Oktoberfest" but "Octoberfest" -- just like the month, not the festival.

Free beer for all! A toast, a toast!
