A blanket of serenity

We had our first big snow on Thursday. The forecast said 3-6 inches. We got 13.5. It was beautiful and yet, since I had to get home from work in it, travel back to the airport to get my wife, and then get home safely late that night, it was not a snow that I could enjoy. It just added to the stress of the day.

But last night and today we've had a few more inches of snow and sleet. Church was canceled. My family is all safe at home. And we are able to just sit inside near the fire and enjoy a very relaxing day. The first such day in two weeks.

I was outside early this morning with the dog. A mix of snow and sleet was falling. And it was so peaceful. The world was quiet and a blanket of pristine snow covered everything. I enjoy the beauty. I enjoy the quiet. I enjoy having my family safe at home.

If you have snow or ice today, I hope you can enjoy it!

We've been blanketed here with a beautiful snow storm.
Everything is clean and white,
peaceful
as long as you don't have to drive in it.
I think I'll go outside now and catch snowflakes.
Enjoy!
Love your photos.

We are having a mega snow storm here. 30 centimetres (about 18 inches) plus winds of 50 km/hour (30 mph). Things are white but definately not quiet.

It is so much easier to appreciate the beauty and quiet of the snow when you can just spend time indoors with loved ones.

Glad you shared...

I'ts actually about -10 this morning and only partly cloudy. We did have snow the last few days, though. So we're rather freshly blanketed as well.

Enjoy the snow & stay safe on the roads!!!!!

We get snow so rarely that its a special treat whenever that white stuff finally does fall. I have to admit that I am a little jealous. Right now we have a chilly rain falling.

No snow here in Virginia but plenty of cold and wind.

Brrr, I am so glad that is at your house and not mine. I am also in VA and we have the wind and cold, a bit of rain yesterday, but not snow thankgood. SNOW is rare here and when we do get it everyone panics.

Just a lot of cold and some light flurries here.

Thanks for sharing your snow with us though. Very beautiful!

I'm envious! We were hoping for some snow this past weekend and only got ice.

For those of you with sleet...or just cold and wind...so sorry. The snow is very pretty.

Terrific photos. I'm like FB: I love snow. We have received more than a foot, but we need more already, methinks!

Enjoy the loveliness.

It was spectacularly beautiful and wintry, I must say.

Next time I'll be home in front of the fire and not taking my chances on slippery roads.

I'm so glad that you had a relaxing, wintry Sunday with the fam. Sounds like you all needed it. Gorgeous snow.

I wonder if you are in my area...I as driving in that snowstorm ALL Thursday afternoon to Boston and back. Horrid horrid storm. Once home, happy for the storm to rage on.

That storm missed us. All our snow is old. And ugly. And half-frozen.

There is something so very peaceful about snow. Coming from a country that does not get much of it and having lived all my life in places where it does not snow, your photos show just how beautiful snow can actually be. I know it brings stresses to many when it snows (dangers etc.,) but it kind of covers up some ugliness (!)

I will always remember being at my dad's cousins place in Northern England at Christmas time 11 years ago. On Boxing Day night, after everyone had gone to bed, it snowed. I remember looking out of the window and watching it silently falling and looking at it and feeling so happy and emotional. You can tell I live in a place where it never snows can't you?

It always looks so lovely...from inside the window.

Gorgeous, em! I'm jealous, sitting here in Atlanta. I hated leaving NYC just as snow was setting in. Ah, well. I suppose there'll be more in January. Love your pictures!

I just love the snow and we are expecting more this weekend. Colorado is just right; we get snow, it melts, we get it again, it melts some more and who can beat an average of 350 days of sunshine. Not me!

Stay warm, enjoy the family, and be well dear Em.

It may be a nuisance, but that snow sure is beautiful.

I'm just catching up, and so I wanted to say belatedly I am so very, very sorry about your niece. That is a tragedy, pure and simple, and I grieve for you and all her family. I will be holding all of you in my heart.

I can't recall the last time I saw now or ice ( <= Phoenix, Arizona )

It's so beautiful. We're just the slightest bit too far south to have gotten any good snow. Another 40 miles north (into the Poconos) and we would be enjoying the winter wonderland, too.
