A Friendly Wager

Son20 and I both love pro football. We were thrilled to sit through opening weekend. We watched our beloved Patriots. But we also watched every other game we could find - flipping channels when more than one game was on. It was sweet!

And just to make this season a little more fun for us, we have a little wager going. Each week we select who we think will win all the games. The best record for the weekend wins that weekend. The one with the most weekend wins at the end of the season takes the other out to dinner.

And I had a good weekend. I was winning. I was winning right up to the last 22 seconds of the second game on Monday night. The last 22 seconds of the entire weekend of games. And then San Francisco scored a winning touchdown.

Now I'm just one week closer to buying a steak dinner.

How about them Patriots? As long as Randy Moss is in check, it should be a fun season.

Although this strikes me as a nightmare activity (in fact I was just emailing a friend about my dislike of sports), it sounds like you and yourson are having a blast with it. So yea! for you guys!

what a great activity between son and father.
I have to admit that I dislike watching football. It means a whole new definition of boredom to me.
I guess those who can play it themselves and understand the rules can somehow enjoy watching it, though.

OK to do for fun the way you are. In fact, between father and son, that's great!

Betting seriously on NFL is like being blindfolded in a dark room and having one snatch with your hand to grab a minnow out of a 100 gallon tank. Too much parity, too many variables, too many injuries, too many crooked folks involved. Like the Patriots filming opposing teams signals... When I heard that one today I almost ran off the road. So that's how they do it...

Go Titans! Sorry....

Winston, I totally understand your loyalty to your Titans. And your Volunteers. :)

And nope, no betting for real. That would be like just throwing my money out the window.

CS...Szelsofa...I promise not to ever make you watch. LOL

I don't know one thing about football. I suck. Sounds fun for you and your boy, though.

Go Seahawks. Alas, my BFF is a Patriot fan, which is fine, when they're not playing the Seahawks. And...I've finally let go of my beloved Broncos (mostly), and CU Buffalos (definitely!). Our favorite pasttime is bringing our drive-thru Taco Bell into the living room, and trying not to spill while we watch the first part of the game. The second half is, of course, watched from bed because Sundays are also napping days. We bring laziness to a new low (or is it high?).

And...I say, a betting family is a family of winners.

I'm an FFF - a Fickle Football Fan. Was a huge Rams fan when I lived in LA - not so much into the Raiders. Became a Cowboys fan when we moved to Little Rock until the Rams moved to St. Louis (I think they were following me). Then I went back to loving the Rams. Now I'm becoming an Eagles fan. Mostly because you don't want to go into Philly if you're NOT an Eagles fan!!

Regardless of who buys the steak, sounds like you boys are having fun!

Sounds like a fun thing that father and son can do together! Kinda makes me sad that my husband doesn't do anything even remotely similar with either of his sons. Oh well....I am glad that you can enjoy the sport and a little wager to boot! A steak dinner? How lucky!! hehe

I'm not a great fan of organized pro sports, I much prefer doing than watching. Good luck for the steak dinner. Either way you win, you get some good times with son20 and a good meal to boot.

Stupid Arizona. They really pissed me off. I had Matt Leinart as my QB thinking that he'd kill the SF defense. He didn't. Grrr.

well, you could make it a really, really BAD steak...all fat and hard to chew...

I've never followed football (I'm pleased when the Patriots do well, though... y'know, gotta be loyal), but it sounds like you've got a fun contest going with your son!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

My brother and I have a bet. After both of us decide to settle down and get married, whoever married last (he is two years my junior so he already has that as an advantage), takes the other couple out to eat. Neither of us is dating...so I'm not too worried about it - yet. I have a feeling I might be paying the bill though. :o)
