One thing I totally love about summer are the extra opportunities to read. Extra days off work allow for reading during the day. And it means I can stay up later at night and read. Days at the beach or the pool mean sitting in the sun and reading. Lots and lots of reading.
For the most part, I'm not reading anything of earth-shattering importance. I read a lot of journals and blogs that relate to my profession, but I'm not working my way through the non-fiction best seller list.
Of course there are some books to help plan our trip to North Carolina.
And I read a lot (a LOT!) of blogs just for fun.
But mostly I love the fiction. Murder mysteries. Horror stories. Creepy stuff. Funny stuff.
At the moment, I'm reading the second book in Dean Koontz's Frankenstein trilogy. Before that, I was reading a book about werewolves. The books in this photo are just a small portion of those I've worked my way through this summer. And I've still got about half a dozen sitting on my bedside table just waiting for me.
I love to read!

I love to read too but just never devote much time to it anymore. I'm hoping when I go on vacation in three weeks to Cape Cod that I'll find some free time to do just that. Happy reading! And tell your wife to stop reading the ending first :-)
I read a ton of fluff on my recent vacation. It was wonderful!!
I'm currently reading "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. Have you read it? If so, what are your thoughts?
Me, to _ I've made a vow to carve out some regular reaidn gtime since i ususally let everything else get in the way.
Sedaris is very, very funny.
Not so sure about the article about sea slugs though, in Nat Geo.
Where would we be without books. Up to now this summer I have gotten through 10 books and I'm working on my 11th right now... ;o) From the picture of your books I can see the you have good taste in computers... another Mac guy. I have the same book on Photoshop Elements, which I use in conjunction with Aperture for all my photos. :o)
I probably read about 5 books at a time. It's essential to my sanity.
Try to stop in Savannah & Charleston. Beautiful.
Oh, I loved Sedaris' Naked; it is laugh out loud funny.
How are the Koontz books? I like him a lot but I find him to be very uneaven. Half of his books are great, the other just so-so.
Does it show that I love to read too?
I'm just starting: The Dirt on Clean - An Unsanitized History by Katherine Ashenburg.
PS: I LOVED The Curious Incident of the Don in the Night-Time.
My whole family loves books. As my dad says, "Reading is FUN-damental!"
jag - I've given up on wifey. She wants to start at the back every time.
jenster - I've not read that book, but if you like it, let me know.
violetsky - the sea slugs was actually pretty interesting.
BB - I'm a Mac guy all the way. And I love elements for playing with my photos.
Jazz - I agree, Koontz can be good or just average. I've found the Frankenstein books to be very interesting and a quick read.
Oh Em!!! I LOVE to read and read about 3-4 books at a time. I get about 10-15 books a week at the library....love it! and I'll read anything...fiction, non-fiction, sports, mystery, humor....anything!
Me too!
Ya know, I hear it's good for you.
Even though my reading tastes diverge a great deal from yours, I agree: reading is da bomb. I could stay up 'til sunrise with a good book, and used to before kiddles. Now it's just 2 a.m.!
I've had so much fun reading this summer as well. I figure I should read as much as I can while I'm still in charge of the reading material. Once school starts, I'll still be reading, but not MY picks!
I feel like I have all the time in the world to read (since it's summer, after all), but I've been way too lazy to read more than a few books.
Summer is fantastic for reading!! With everything going on with my engagement and moving I haven't been able to read as much as I'd like to but I did read a few books and they were fantastic. I am going out to buy Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer which is the last book in the series I'm reading. I have to make sure it's at a time when I have two days off work in a row because I know as soon as I start reading that book I won't eat or sleep til it's finished. She's amazing!
I love reading. Check out the Shelfari link on my blog.
Is the third Koontz Frankenstein book out yet?
I read 1 and 2 what seems like years ago
TV
"The Historian" was great, IMHO-a "real life" vampire story. Not usually my cup of tea.
Currently in the midst of:
"How Fiction Works", James Wood
"The Dark Side", Jane Meyer
"Going Going Gone", a baseball book about trades whose author escapes me at the moment
"Watchmen", a graphic novel that is going to be a movie this fall.
I'm having a hard time finding something to keep my interest this summer. Help!
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time is amazing.
I'd truly go insane without a book to read. I see you have "Naked" by David Sedaris, I read that this summer too - loved it! So funny.
Have you not finished those books yet???
Yay reading! Seems like there is too much to do these days to get enough time in for reading.
