Did you party and drink and eat and then set resolutions not to party and drink and eat so much? Or are you a stay-at-home, avoid the crowds, sit by the fire and watch TV kind of New Year's person?
We are the home type. The crowds hold no lure for us. We had wonderful snacks, hung out with the kids, watched some DVD's, and celebrated the new year in a quiet way. And it was nice.
And now it is New Year's Day. The snow is falling. And we are snuggled in by the fire for our last day off before returning to school and work. And it would be a perfect day....except...
I have the cold. No sore throat. No fever. But enough congestion to be in the Guinness Book of World Records. Not to put too fine a point on it, but my head is filled with snot...and the extra is leaking out. And this is actually Day 5 of the cold...so everyone is tired of hearing me snort and blow and sniff.
I tried taking the pills. Twelve hour relief with just one capsule. Bah. I might as well have been eating Tic Tacs. All that happens is that I have to suffer for twelve hours before trying something else.
I could do that liquid stuff. But I've never felt like that helped either. Sure, it makes me sleepy and I can take a long nap. But that isn't curing anything...just letting me sleep through the cold and wake up when it is over. And if that is all it does, why bother to buy it? I can achieve the same thing with liquor.
But for congestion...sniffles....stuffy noses...there is a remedy that I love. It works quickly...and reliably. When all else fails, I reach for the nose spray. A couple of squirts right up the nostrils and I'm breathing like a normal human again!
Now I know that isn't curing anything. I'm just getting rid of a symptom. But since that is the only symptom I have...it feels like I'm cured. Until the twelve hours is almost over...and all the snot that has been held back comes rushing out. And I go running for my spray again. The vicious Snot Cycle.
But maybe the cold will be gone soon? Positive thinking, right?!?!
Well, if you've read through my ramblings about my cold (or if you just scrolled to the bottom hoping for something more interesting to read)...
Happy New Year to you!!!

feel better soon, happy new year to you as well.
Feel better. Happy New year. I stayed home and got my kiddos to bed. Rock star partying at it's finest.
Happy New Year Em!!!
Now on the nose spray....THAT STUFF IS THE BOMB!!!! I totally got addicted to it the last time I had a cold, but let me tell you...it was well worth it. I could breathe for 12 hours straight. Get stuffy?..a little squirt and you're back to your normal self! Wonderful!
Happy New Year Em!
I stayed home. Watched TV. Ate way too much food. Fell asleep at 12:30. At least I was up for the new year. My wife fell asleep at 11.
Seeing as we live far apart, you can't blame me for the cold. {wink} I am still hacking up a lung, but feel fine.
Hope the snot clears up quickly! It's no fun, I know.
Happy New Year to you, too, Em. I also have that cold working, I hope I didn't give it to you.
I've recapped my New Years Eve, sounds like yours was alot less stressful.
Happy New Year Em!
Feel better soon.
Sorry to hear you are feeling rather SNOTTY
drink a hot Neo Citrin tonight
It will knock you out and you'll feel less snotty in the morning
Happy New year!!!!!!!!!!
I just got over a cold that could have given your 'ooze' a run for it's money. Dr. told me to use Sudafed....It worked....
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! We are the stay-at-home types. We hate most people, so it works out well for us.
Happy New Year to you, hope you are feeling better soon.
Happy New Year! Bummer about the cold. My experience is that you. will. always. get. sick. on. vacation. That's it, you have a little free time? A cold! A few days off? The plague! Going on a vacation? Watch out!
I got lucky this Christmas break, I just got a moderate to severe case of the lazies! 11 days, with nothing to show for it!
Hope you are able to get back in the swing of things tomorrow with relative ease!

Hope you feel better soon, Em!!!! Happy New Years to you & yours. I hope 2008 is a fantastic year full of laughter & learning for your family.
that sucks. I'm sorry. Last year at this time, I had pneumonia. This year, I just have a big headache. But that was self induced. Feel better! Happy New Year!
I stayed home, too, and spent the first two hours of the new year cleaning up my room a little. I was a little disappointed this year that we broke family tradition and didn't play some sort of board game before the ball drop, but there's always next year.
P.S. Nose spray feels funny and freaks me out a little. I'm glad it works for you, though.
Oh, and it's weird, but my dad made almost the exact same comment about cold medicines only curing the symptom. Weird.
Sorry to hear about your cold. I'm just getting over mine. Thank goodness for Afrin and Simply Saline. Get some of the latter and use it several times a day (even after you're better) ..... it's great at flushing the germs and environmental junk right out of there.
Happy New Year!
I'm sorry you have that yucky cold!! Mine hung on for 2 weeks!! It was brutal! I hope you get over it soon. :)
Glad you had a nice New Years at home with the family!
All the best to you in 2008! ;)
My own little new year's blessing to you:
May you be free from snot as you embrace 2008.
My husband & I always go out for dinner/movie on the eve of New Year's Eve. It's way less crowded!
Then we stay in and sometimes get together with friends for pizza and some kid madness!!!
Happy New Year - feel better soon!
You know...they used to call me "Goober" at work (the nurses) because I could handle any bodily fluid except mucus. Just a fun factoid about me I thought I would share.
We have a "junk food night" tradition. It has gotten waaay out of control. To the point where we buy all our favorites (e.g. Twinkies, Fritos and bean dip) and then require Tums before the night is over. The grand finale is, of course, build-your-own-sundaes.
I think we started this when our kids were very little and we couldn't afford/acquire a sitter, and then didn't want to be out driving. Now, it's my kids' favorite night of the year.
MUCINEX
Stuff is killer
It takes the snot right out
Take it from the Reigning MUCUS KING about that
TV
I was the stay-at-home, avoid the crowds, watch TV type of person this year. The rest of my family was not. They left me at home all by myself.
Good to hear about a positive evening.
Happy New Year to you also.
I always knew you were astute but never moreso than when you noted liquor's benefits in the face of poor health. I got through college by "drinking it out" everytime any bacteria or virus jumped aboard!
I hope the spray keeps you well until you really are!
MCs (Man Colds) are just so much more awfully worse than WCs (that would be Woman Colds) aren't they? I just don't know how you guys survive.
The only bad thing about the nasal spray is the rebound congestion you get and that's how they get you! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...yeah, those cold bugs are going around everywhere.
Knock on wood that I haven't gotten anything...YET!
Hope you're mo betta soon ;o)
I'm the stay-at-home New Year's Eve type, too, em. And I must have a "sympathetic cold" with you, friend. Not much to be done but ride it out. A Happy and Healthy New Year to ya'!
Yeah we are the stay at home types too. Sorry about your cold, that's no fun...
Happy New Year
I'm going private by tomorrow.
happy new year!!!!!!!!
I'm thinking about taking you up on that offer to call me every morning and wake me up! haha
Hope you're feeling better by now Em - Happy New Year :)
We usually stay in but this year we partied at friends - it was brilliant...
but I am blaming that for my cold which I've only really had for 2 days now....
though my husband finds the husky voice sexy!!? explain that if you will...
Enjoy your weekend, Katie, x
You're still absent - hope the cold isn't hanging on too badly.
You already know I went the party route, BUT no resolutions to stop! Next year, I'll have th ekids, so it will be much quieter.
Hope you are feeling good in no time!
The only resolution I make is I refuse to make them !!!!!! Now that hubby is back at work, I guess life gets back on track again ;)
Em! I need you! I have a column up about sex on Goodhousekeeping! (Stop, you big perv. I don't need you for SEX. I need your for comments!!!! You are going to be my lone male ranger in a sea of females. Get your butt over to my site and click on the link and give me some props.)
Was that subtle enough?
PS: Feel better please.
Happy New Year
My cold just went away. Now the wife has it..
I hope you feel better soon. I'm getting over mine (finally). You (or your wife) may appreciate this
Everything ok?
Happy New Year! I wish you all the best.
Thanks for dropping by to pay my blog a visit. :)
Feel better soon!
You never write...you don't call. What up? You must be living life, rather than blogging it. ;)
Happy New Year to you too, Em! I trust you are well over that nasty cold by now.
We spent New Year'd Day with two friends who came to our house for the whole day. I cooked and we chatted and drank champagne... and wine with the dinner. It was all very pleasant.
Just checking in ...
